Giant herbaceous perennial. A huge furry rhizome lies on the soil surface from which strong upright 2m spiny leaf stalks emerge that have immense scalloped rough textured leaves that can reach over 2.5m in width. strange spiky but soft-fingered flower stalks are producedfrom underground and just add to the whole Jurassic look of the plant .In a sheltered position in a mild, wet climate damp position is probably the largest and most dramatic plants we can grow in the uk. Cut the old leaves at the ouset of winter and use to cover and protect the the crown, remove in spring.
